The Gorilla Foundation said that the 46-year-old western lowland gorilla named Koko died in its sleep at the foundation’s preserve in California’s Sana Cruz mountains on Tuesday. Kerala scraps plantation tax

Kerala has decided to scrap the plantation tax in view of the crisis in the sector. CM Pinarayi said in a statement in the Assembly on Thursday that the govt has decided to do away with Plantation Tax. A commission that was appointed in 2015 to study the problems faced by the plantation sector had said that plantation tax is one of the oldest taxes and it was levied only in Kerala.

Asaam lynching case: 36 arested so far

Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia Wednesday said 36 people have been arrested in the case of the lynching of two youths in Karbi Anglong district earlier this month. 57000 BPL families in Mizoram: Survey

Altogether 56,584 families in Mizoram are still living below poverty line which is 19.63 per cent of total households of over 2.8 lakh, according to the BPL baseline survey 2016 released here on Wednesday. Tragedy struck at Kadur taluk in Chikkamagaluru when a fuel-laden truck caught fire after it toppled over while negotiating a curve at Giriyapura. The truck driver sustained serious burn injuries, while the cleaner is missing.
